About Dr. Vreeland

Vreeland Picture.jpg
I am a licensed clinical psychologist (PSY34405) in California, specializing in working with children, teens, young adults, and families to address the following problem areas:
  • Anxiety and Stress

  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

  • PANS/PANDAS

  • Depression

  • Acting out at home or school

  • Disruptive, oppositional, aggressive, and other challenging behaviors

  • Trouble adjusting to life changes

My approach to treatment is warm and collaborative. I provide evidence-based therapy to youth, young adults, & families with practice rooted in clinical science. My orientation is cognitive-behavioral, and I draw from a range of evidence-based treatments including: cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), parent management training, and mindfulness based stress reduction.

Training. I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychological Science from Vanderbilt University. I completed my clinical internship in Child Psychology here, in San Francisco, at UCSF and completed a two-year clinical and research fellowship in Clinical Psychology at Stanford University.

Academic Appointments. In addition to private practice, I am a clinical psychologist in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinics at Stanford University School of Medicine/Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. I serve as the Director of Therapeutic Services in the Immune Behavior Health Clinic, providing clinical care to children, adolescents, and their families, as well as teaching psychology trainees and maintaining an active program of research. My clinical and research efforts are in providing evidence-based care to youth, young adults, and families with PANS/PANDAS, OCD, and other behavioral challenges.

Services

I am committed to evidence-based treatment supported by scientific research. Such approaches focus on improving the client's well being by targeting and modifying thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in ways that produce symptom relief and lasting change.

Intake/Diagnostic Assessment

Before beginning therapy, I will first meet with you, your child, and/or your family for an intake session or sessions. When working with children, I typically meet with parents for one session and your child for another; this typically takes two 45-minute sessions or one 90-minute session. At the end of the intake, we will collaboratively identify treatment goals for therapy, and I will develop an initial treatment plan.

Individual and Family Psychotherapy

Treatment may include individual therapy as well as meeting with parents together with youth or individually. Therapy sessions typically last 45 minutes and involve learning and applying new skills, tailored to each individual and each family's needs.

Parent Coaching

When working with families of toddlers and young children, I primarily work with parents. Behavior parent training involves teaching evidence-based strategies to manage and change behavior and is the most impactful way to see positive growth in young children.
